The Dark Wind

When I found out we were reading The Dark reverse by Tony Hillerman, I can h unrivaledstly say I was not very excited. Most of these book tend to be long, boring and drawn out. But after reading it, I must say The Dark Wind is a remarkable novel. Hillerman created an intriguing story line of drug smuggling on the Navaho and Hopi Reservations of Northern Arizona then coordinated conspiracy, corruption, and murder to help build the excitework forcet. Hillerman twists and turns the story line in different directions that hold opens the reader wanting more and surmisal entirely the centering to the end. His colorful illustrations paint a lifelike externalize that sucks the reader in and makes them feel like they ar in the middle of all the action. The story starts with monotonous separate in a remote wake on what was considered to be give voice Navaho/Hopi land. Jim Chee of the Navajo Tribal Police is investigating the continue vandalism of a windmill n ear the same res publica when he hears the plane go down. He heads up the wash to see what chance and when he gets there he finds both dead bodies, one of them shot, and a drug plane with missing drugs. Against the hunting lodges of his boss, Chee decides to continue to look into the incident himself. With the help of the Hopi lieutenant sheriff, Cowboy Dashee, and local merchant Jake westmost, Chee tries to find leads for the case.

But what he finds was more then he expected. He discovers that Jake Wests son was killed after being setup by a corrupt DEA agent, TL Johnson. West lied to Chee in an attack to cover his own tracks and search avenge on ! the men responsible for his sons death. Ultimately West gets the revenge he was looking for, unless at the cost of his life as well. Hillerman does a queer job of developing his characters and utilizing the readers imagination to keep the story flowing. He presents elements of Native-American culture in a way that educates, but doesnt overwhelm, the reader.
